Volcano Damavand, Iran is a regular and almost symmetrical volcanic cone shape like many other volcanic mountains in the word. It is a unique mountain in the region. It looks like Fujiyama, the highest peak in Japan.

Instead of a single peak, Damavand Mountain has a wonderful huge crater about 150 to 200 meters across with different high points made by yellow sulfurous rocks and pumice stones. The peak is covered by snow and ice mostly through the year. Only in a very hot summer you may find a little water in its crater pool.

Mt Damavand summit is 5671m, 18,605 ft high, which is ranked the highest summit in the Middle East and the highest volcano in Asia and the Northen Hemisphere.

There is no shelter/refuge at the peak, but if someone wishes to challenge 7000 m or higher, tenting may be possible in some safe places far from the sulphuric area.
