Mount Damawand Natural World Heritage

Iran's Volcano Damavand has been submitted to UNESCO's tentative list for registration as the country's first Natural World Heritage Site. Snow covers Damawand Peak throughout the entire year and makes it an important ski resort of Iran. The most important thermal springs there are Ask and Larijan. Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) believes the world registration of Demavand will help protect the diverse flora and endemic species as well as endangered plants.

Description
Mount Damawand is the highest elevation about 5628m a. l. s. in Iran. It is an inactive volcanic mountain which was activated in Quaternary Period. It has numerous thermal springs. The peak of Damavand covers permanently snow during the entire year. The most important thermal springs are Ask and Larijan.

The Flora and Fauna is very rich and include about 2000 plant species. There are numerous endemic species which are important to Flora of world.
