Mount Doberar Ridgeline Ski Touring

In the center of the Alborz mountain range, just facing Mount Damavand Iran, is Mount Doberar, also known as Doberar Ridgeline and Doberar Massif. Between the Nimrod and Haraz rivers is where you'll find the Doberar Ridgeline. The Dobrar ridge is uniformly high and has roughly 23 high peaks, 10 of which are over 4,000 thousand meters high. Along this ridgeline, there are numerous other high peaks and more than 20 summits with names. The highest of these peaks, west Dobrar Peak, rises to a height of 4072 meters. Along with its own name, the Doberar peak is also referred to as Maz and Qara-Dagh and is the highest point in the continuous mountain range (Doberar mountain). Doberar, also spelled Do-Berar, is a name that means "two brothers"!

Doberar Ridgeline

About 70 kilometers long, the Doberar mountain range features a number of lofty peaks, including Bazmchal, Chengizchal (formerly Chengeh-chal), Parvaneh, Angmar, Doberar, Souzchal, Gharadagh, Qiyag-lake, and Shah-tape. It starts on the Haraz Road south of Polour Village and links to Nimrod on the Firouzkoh route. The Nimrod river flows in the north and east of the mountain range, Lake Tar and the Deli Chai and Tar rivers flow in the north and north-northeast, and Lasem Village flows in the north.

At 3208 meters, the Siyariz low peak has a completely unhindered connection to Mount Pashureh and other mountain ranges. The cities of Damavand, Amol, and Firouzkoh are divided by this mountain range in a few locations.   The Emamzadeh Hashem pass is where the Doberar ridgeline on the Haraz, Tehran to Amol route begins. It then proceeds east and ends near to Seleh Band on Firooz Kooh on the Tehran to Sari main road. Before beginning ski touring in Damavand, Iran, it is best to acclimatize and exercise on Mount Doberar.

Angemar Peaks

One can ascend the northern slopes of Angemar I and Angemar II beginning in the settlement of Lasem (2550 m). To reach Angemar Mountain, however, most climbers must ascend the Dobrar Ridgeline over a number of days. At the summit of the Dobrar Ridgeline rises a rocky peak known as Angemar I peak. The 4020-meter Angemar II Peak and the 4072-meter West Dobrar Peak are connected to the 4020-meter Angemar I Peak.

Parvaneh, Angemar II Peak, and neighboring peaks. Angemar II is a mountain that rises along the Dobrar Ridgeline and features a number of peaks made of high terrain. Three of these high places are situated at elevations of more over 4,000 meters. From west to east, the high points are as follows: All other high points nearby—including those that are lower than 4000 m—can be regarded Angemar II's sub-peaks. Its official summit is at point 4020 m.

A 3930-meter saddle connects Angemar II to the 4047-meter Angemar I Peak to the east, and a succession of unnamed high peaks connects it to the 3750-meter Parvaneh Peak to the west. Find reputable articles in Mount Damavand Ski Tour Guide.

While the northern slopes of Mount Angemar plunge precipitously to the base of Lasem Village and Lasem River Valley (2500 m), the southern slopes of the mountain drop to the Tar River Valley (also 2500 m). The southern slopes drop abruptly into the Tar River Valley near Tar Lake (2900 m). Just below its peak, the southern slopes of Angemar create little barriers.

To the west, a series of rounded high points extends from Changiz Chal III (with elevations in the 3400 m range). These high points finally meet at the 3416 m Bazm Chal Summit, the westernmost peak of the Doberar Ridgeline and a well-liked climbing access point. The southern slopes of Changiz Chal III, which descend sharply, create a valley in which the city of Damavand—not to be confused with Mount Damavand—is located. In the east, Chagiz Chal III and Changiz Chal II are separated by a 3550 m saddle.

The northern slopes of Changz Chall III drop out into the Lasem Creek Valley (near its junction with Haraz River). The top of Changiz Chal III is actually made up of two distinct peaks that are a few hundred meters apart. Although the western peak of these two tall mountains appears to be fairly rocky, it is not difficult to climb. However, the eastern tip creates a little wall on its eastern face.

The lowest of the designated summits, Bazm Chal is the westernmost peak of the Doberar massif. It climbs right above the Haraz Road and can be used to access the top of the ridgeline and serve as a starting point for treks. Most climbers follow the ridge-top east after reaching Bazm Chal's summit to get to the other summits along the Dobrar Ridgeline. Depending on the climber's strength and ability, traversing the entire ridgeline typically takes a little more than a week to complete. The 5670-meter-tall enormous cone of Mount Damavand, which is to the north, may be seen best from the peak of Bazm Chal. Unfortunately, the Bazm Chal hills can be reached halfway up by the traffic noise from the Haraz Road.

Oriental Doberar Peak

East Dobrar peak, which rises to a height of 4080 meters, is one of the Dobrar mountain range's highest summits. Traveling from the end of Havir village up the river to the great spring, then continuing on to the Dobrar pass and the eastern Dobrar peak from there, is how one gets to the eastern Dobrar peak. Chehel Cheshmeh summit at 3100.

Weather at Doberar Peak in the winter

The highest point of the Dobrar mountain range experiences the same harsh and dangerous winter conditions the same as Mount Damavand weather. Repeated avalanches continue to fall on the northern and southern flanks throughout the winter and into the early spring. The ridge's edge is where large snow masks are developing. Reaching the peak of the region requires adequate winter climbing abilities and complete climbing equipment.

Doberar, Angemar, Chengizchal, and other peaks on Iran's northern slopes are popular destinations for skiers looking for a wilderness experience. The best time to ski in the region is from late March to mid-April. Skiers can travel down to the town of Lasem at 2550 meters by descending from the point's peak (around 4000 m). Skiing down is best done in the valley that lies between the peaks. You might find continuous ski-able snow all the way down to the Lasem Village in a year with above-average spring snow cover and good snow conditions. To get to the many Doberar summits, skiers must scale the steep slopes of the aforementioned valley from the town of Lasem.

Alam Kuh (4848 m) and Damavand summits (5671 m) for ski touring. The Alborz Mountains, which are north of Teheran and include Damavand ski touring as its highest summit, are still a complete mystery to backcountry skiers. The ideal acclimatization terrain may be found in the Doberar Mountains and Alam Kuh ski tours, which feature stable slopes that are never tracked.

To increase the likelihood of reaching Mount Damavand's peak, the majority of trip operators advise beginning the ski touring in early April and early May, when the weather are frequently optimal. Starting in April, there are cold temperatures, frequent strong winds, and a very high avalanche risk at 5,000 meters. Despite our best efforts, it might still be necessary for us to lug our skis up the final few vertical meters on our backs.

The Level of Fitness and Skill
The ability to ski for 4 to 6 hours each day with up to 1600 vertical ascents is required of participants. Good backcountry skiing technique, especially kick turns for the ascent, and sure feet are a must. One must carry a rather heavy backpack with a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, and food for 24 hours to get to the bivouac of the Damavand resort at 4,200 m.

Depending on the amount of snow and the weather, we advise acclimatizing either in the Doberar Mountains or at Alam-Kuh. At 4,200 meters above sea level, or with an elevation of 4.848 meters, Alam Kuh offers acclimatization as does the other acclimatization zone. You can stay with locals in a Lasem local house or a Polour climbing resort when visiting the Doberar region and the Lasem ski zone. We suggest taking one of the ski tours to a height of at least 3,500 meters in the final two weeks before leaving. The acclimatization from these tours will last for up to three weeks.
