Helpful info for Ascending Mount Damavand

New Mount Damavand Marathon Climbing Record
From 7 May to 17 October 2007 I climbed 24 times to Mount Damavand, which I believe is a new record in Mount Damavand climbing . As far as I know the last record belongs to a friend of mine Mr. Mojtaba Saghiyan which climbed Mount Damavand 22 times in 2005 .

End of Summer season for damavand climbing
The summer season for climbing mount Damavand has ended, if you intend to do climb damavand, you must be an experienced climber , and it is not wise for the newcommers and beginners to try damavand at this time of year.

Paal Bjorstad in Mt Damavand Polour Camp

Paal Bjorstad from Norway under 18 , he is one of the the best young damavand climbers that I have ever seen climbing Mount-Volcano Damavand so fast ( 4H 15M from Bargah Sevom to the Summit) . He has climbed 2 tough mountains in less than a week, Mt.Ararat (about 10 Aug 2007) and Mt.Damavand ( 14 Aug 2007). I believe we will hear a lot from him in near future, and I won`t be surprised if I see a new Reinhold Messner !

Zuzka from Czech Repoblic has climbed Mount Damavand with this kind of shoes , please you do`nt do that , otherwise you may hurt your feet.

Mt.Damavand summer season almost ends middle of September or beginning of October. After that it changes quickly to winter , heavy snow and ice covers all part of damavand , so it is not suitable for ordinary , novice or amateur climbers to try it , only high skilled climbers may climb damavand at this time of the year.

I did a climb to the top of Mt.Damavand on 8 may 2007,
this is the latest situation there :
-The damavand graval road is open an the cars can go upto
Goosfan Sara ( 3050m) .
-Damavand foot paths are under snow and ice in some places so be carefull.
- There is no clean water in the damavand area , you must melt snow for your water supply , do not foget to have enouhg gas , or carry enough water with yourself .
-The damavand condition is a little though yet .
- There are more sulfuric gases near the top damavand this year so keep away from them as much as you can !?

The climbing season for ordinary climbers to damavand has started , but the graval road is not ready yet to cars due to heavy snow last winter. So remember that you should arrange your starting point at beginning of gravel road to damavand. But I think it would be ok in couple of weeks to start at base camp.
Please note that Iranian Mountain Climbing Federation has increased the damavand permission fee for each foreign visitors from 20 USD to 50 USD this year , so if you plan to visit damavand south way during summer remember to pay it at base camp or bargah sevom camp.
