Heavy Snow Fall - End of Summer season 19 Sep 2009
There has been heavy snow fall in Mt Damavand area this week, meaning that summer climbing season is ended, ordinary climbers are strongly advised not attemp climbing till a better condition in next summer. It could be a good news for Mt Damavand ski mountaineers.
Atumn Climbing 12 Sep 2009
Automn season has already started in Mt Damavand, almost too early, with its regular cold winds during which temperatures decrease remarkably specially after sunset.
For a successful climb in this season, you should be experinced and well equipped, you need a good weather forecast, unexpected bad weather condition is common in this time of the year in Mt Damavand. Remember weather could change to very bad in atumn, with strong winds and freezing temprature, you must be well-experienced for difficult climbs and extra care should be taken for climbing.

Mt Damavand is a major tourist attraction in summer and reaches its crowd peak in 6 August each year, because of its easy accessibility from Tehran, south route is the most popular face of the mountain, there is no clear estimation that how many climbers ascend in this month, in order to encounter a small crowds problem, it is recommended that you bring your own tent in August because all shelters and huts are full of climbers or book a place in huts in advance.
Asphalting Mt Damavand 15 July 2009
Local officials of Reineh Town are making construction works to cover 7 Kms base camp gravel road by asphalt, this silly decision will ruin Mt Damavand nature environment and ecosystem, many mountain climbers have objected to this stupid project, but construction work is still under way.
"While Iran's cultural heritage officials have designated a day as National Damavand Day, local officials are damaging the site by paving the route with asphalt," head of Iran's Mountaineering Federation, Mahmoud Shoaei, told ISNA.
"Each year Mt Damavand attracts many tourists , this construction work has destroyed the natural landscape of the mountain," he added. Shoaei stressed that such decisions severely ruins the country's tourism industry, saying "if not stoped, a gondola will be installed in the mountain very soon, as happened to Mt Alvand and Mt Sabalan . He added that this work has damaged the mountain up to 3600 m above, damaging the natural beauty of Damavand. Iran's Mountaineering Federation has sent a letter to the Interior Minister, asking that the asphalt project should be stopped immediately.

Unfortunately 3 Iranian climbers from Bandar Abbas Province lost their lives last week because of bad weather in Mt Damavand. This group with 11 members climbed from south route, due to bad weather at altitude of about 5000 meters some climbers returned back to Bargah Sevom Camp and 4 of them continued their ascend to the summit, but in return they could not find the correct way back to the Camp3 and they lost the way in the dead zone of Mt Damavand, they ended to west route, which caused them 3 death.

Mount Damavand climate is good in summer, but it may change fast and you may not have enough time or energy to find a suitable shelter, please have sufficient cloths and gear with you even during a fine weather to save your life in case of emergency .
